California Young Reader Medal

Unlike most other book awards, the books involved  with the California Young Readers Medal are nominated by students, voted on by students and even presented by students.  It is exciting for our Ashley Falls students to be a part of deciding on the winner and it also introduces and aides in their understanding of the democratic process. Over the next few weeks, I will be reading the picture book nominees and discussing them before the voting takes place in March. There are also three nominees in the chapter book category, which, because of time restraints, will not be read in our library. Students interested in voting in the chapter book category are encouraged to read these nominees at home.
